Corvus T-Shirt #3:
Corvus Logo Tee - "Corvus Horologicus"

The Story of the T-Shirt

shopping cart CORVUS LOGO TEE SHIRT
"CORVUS HOROLOGICUS"

Our first logo T-Shirt. "Corvus Horologicus" simply means Corvus Watch Company in Latin. We got the idea from the inscriptions put by clockmakers on their products in England during the reign of George II, for example: "Tho. Cartwright Princips. Horologicus Londini," and "Thos. Eayre. Horologicvs." Since "Corvus" itself is Latin for Raven, it seemed appropriate. Above the lettering is the design engraved on the back of our watches, a raven surrounded by the constellation Corvus.

The T-Shirt itself is very special. It's made by Goodwear, who mill the fabric and construct the the shirts in Essex, Massachusetts, USA. The shirt is made from an incredibly heavy weight 7.2 ounce ring-spun grey mock twist 90% cotton/10% Rayon fabric, with a set on collar. You have to feel this shirt to beleive it. Super soft and much heavier than any other T-Shirt you have ever worn. (Typical "heavy-weight" T-Shirts are a mere 5.6 ounce/yard.) Goodwear shirts are almost impossible to find as much of their production is sent to Japan where they have a fanatical following. Probably the best quality T-Shirt in the world.

These shirts are not pre-shrunk, but after they shrink they will be true to size.

Corvus T-Shirt #2:
Travis Bickle's "King Kong Company" Shirt
From Taxi Driver

The Story of the T-Shirt

shopping cart TAXI DRIVER MOVIE T-SHIRT
"KING KONG COMPANY"

"YOU LOOKING AT ME?" This design is an authentic reproduction of the famous "King Kong Company" patch that are on the Army jackets that Robert DeNiro's Travis Bickle character wears throughout the classic 1976 Martin Scorsese movie "Taxi Driver." The patch plays an important supporting role in the film. The enraged gorilla represents Travis Bickle's alter-ego: an angry and tightly-wound Vietnam veteran ready to explode at any moment!

Inside, the T-shirt is stencilled with "T. Bickle" and U.S. Army size and stock number information exactly like authentic Vietnam-issued Army T-shirts. This T-shirt looks like you just picked it up out of Travis Bickle's closet!

This design has been badly reproduced over the years by several exclusive Japanese clothing companies (Including Buzz Ricksons) as both T-shirts and woven patches. There are at least three different versions of this design out there. They are all hopelessly wrong! We carefully studied the actual U.S. Army Tanker Jacket worn by Robert DeNiro (now in the collection of the University of Texas) and have meticulously created new art that precisely captures the "Made in Saigon" feeling of the original design.

Corvus T-Shirt #1:
Fly the Friendly Skies of Vietnam

The Story of the T-Shirt

shopping cart Our T-shirt is an exact replica of my favorite T- shirt from when I was serving in the Navy in Vietnam. (The original is in the photo to the right). As a Naval Flight Officer on the aircraft carrier USS Hancock, I spent quite a bit of time in Olongapo, Philippines. I bought this T-shirt there from a street vendor. I think I paid about 50 cents for it.

This was a popular slogan on T-shirts (remember the United Airlines TV commericals?), but this was kind of a cut-rate version of it. You could buy more expensive, less primitive T-shirts with this slogan, but this version had the most character.

I used to wear it under my flightsuit. I figured if I got shot down and was captured by the North Vietnamese, they would take the usual photo of me in captivity, and I thought this would be a good T-shirt to have on in the photo.

When you wear it, remember that the Bradley dive watch was based on a design that was worn by the US Navy UDT divers of that era, many of whom were stationed in Olongapo at Subic Bay. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!

Thanks,

Tom Cameron
